The Story

Uncommon City began as a dream planted deep in our hearts—a vision to create a community where people could pursue the Good, Beautiful, and True Way of Jesus. From the start, we knew this wouldn’t be just another church. It would be a space that felt like home, where faith was lived out in real and uncommon ways, inviting everyone to the table.

At first, Seattle seemed like the perfect setting for this vision. A vibrant city known for its culture, creativity, and diversity, it felt like fertile ground for a community like Uncommon City. We began planning, praying, and preparing to launch there. We were excited, hopeful, and ready to step into what we believed God was calling us to.

But as we leaned deeper into prayer and discernment, something unexpected began to happen. There was a gentle yet persistent stirring in our spirits—a sense that the story God was writing wasn’t unfolding in Seattle after all. Along with that stirring came a series of closed doors. Opportunities we had hoped for didn’t materialize, and it became clear that while the vision for Uncommon City was right, the location needed to shift. And with that realization came a call back to where it all began: St. Petersburg, Florida.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. It came through countless conversations, tears, and moments of wrestling with God. But in the end, we knew that staying in St. Pete wasn’t a detour; it was the original plan all along. It was a call to root ourselves in this city we already loved, among people we already knew, to be part of something God was already doing here.

St. Petersburg is a city of beauty, resilience, and potential. It’s a place where stories collide and hope is waiting to be unearthed. Known for its spirit of unity and strength, St. Pete lives up to its motto: “We are St. Pete.” As we looked around, we saw a community that longed for connection, depth, and belonging. And so, we embraced the call to plant Uncommon City right here.

Our story is one of trusting God’s timing and listening to His voice, even when it leads us in unexpected directions. It’s about staying faithful to the dream of creating a community that reflects God’s love, justice, and grace in tangible ways.

As we move forward, we remain committed to being a space where everyone can find their place, feel seen, and step into the rhythm of following Jesus. This is just the beginning of the story—and we’re so glad you’re here to be part of it.
