Our Values

  • Fidelity to Orthodoxy.

We hold to the historic faith with joy, boldness and confidence in a time of widespread theological and ethical compromise, particularly in the areas of scripture, sex, money and power. We are committed to the Gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus.

  • Moving in the power of the Spirit.

We embrace the gifts and ministry of the Spirit to equip the church for fruitful missional engagement. We seek to be a people of God’s manifest presence, so that many may say, “surely God is among them.”

  • Practicing Counter-Formation.

We practice a slow-down spirituality in a hyper-connected, over-busy, and exhausted world. Recovering ancient practices of sabbath and contemplative prayer. Living by a rule of life, and aiming to becoming desert fathers and mothers in the city.

  • Thoughtful engagement with secular culture.

We preach the Gospel in a way that deconstructs cultural idols and proclaims the Gospel as the fulfillment of all personal and existential longings in our cultural moment. We seek creative mission and ecclesiology that fit the context and reach the lost.

  • Seeking spiritual awakening.

We pray fervently for an outpouring of the Spirit, that brings revival to the church, and a spiritual awakening in the larger culture.

  • Remembering the poor.

We will live among and serving the poor, overlooked, and marginalized in a way that embodies the way of Jesus and seeks to find God in the face of those on the outside.

  • Category defying relationships.

We will cultivate deep, loyal, and united friendships across the boundaries of race, class, politics, and sex, in a world that seeks to polarize and divide based on categories of power or privilege.

We share and align these values with Searock Sessions, a society for pastors and leaders seeking renewal in the Church.

Financially Donating

Seeding something new takes a considerable amount of financial resources. Many of the experiences we plan on making core to Uncommon City like Practicing The Way, Alpha, and other Justice Initiatives will require us to fundraise just over $600K over the next few years. Will you consider giving to our efforts in a one time or recurring monthly gift as an Uncommon Partner.

Receiving Updates

The start of Uncommon City will be slow and intentional. There will be many milestones, prayer requests, prayers answered, and family updates from the Seymour’s. We’d love to update you regularly as we journey together in this new community of faith in Seattle.

Joining Our Team

  • Our seed team will be a group of individuals who start our community, serving in various capacities to form and be the church. Whatever your giftings are, we believe that you are uniquely gifted for this moment. We’d love to be a space where those gifts flourish and grow for the sake of the Kingdom in Seattle.

  • Starting fall of 2024, we will hold monthly prayer calls to pray, contending to “let Heaven come”. We are looking for individuals who will pray for Uncommon City monthly.

  • We believe that God has already spoken to families and individuals about moving to Seattle to be a part of Uncommon City. Relocating and starting afresh is daunting, yet we know that God meets us in these bold steps of faith when they are connected to his commission. Is He speaking to you?
